The local need
Rockingham County’s adopted budget directs roughly $38.5 million to public safety, including approximately $13.9 million for the Sheriff, $10.4 million for EMS, and $2.85 million for 911. The budget process has also documented the need for additional paramedics and telecommunicators.
District 65 priorities
- Recruit and retain law enforcement officers, paramedics, telecommunicators, and volunteer firefighters.
- Provide modern equipment, practical training, and interoperable communications.
- Focus enforcement and prevention on trafficking, child exploitation, violent crime, and dangerous drugs.
- Measure whether treatment and recovery programs reduce repeat emergencies and crime.
- Protect due process while keeping dangerous offenders away from victims.
